Re: Movie Thread

I know you're not supposed to be anal with continuity in these films, but I don't see the point of flagrantly ignoring it either. It's like if James Bond movies resurrected his wife every now and then. The point of having a flexible continuity is to move on.

Re: Movie Thread

The Gibson movies aren’t even consistent with that, and I think that’s fine. It’s a trait of the series at this point. Was there any real inconsistency in the Gibson era? Seemed pretty straightforward to me. Movie 1 is obviously movie 1. In the Road Warrior, his clothes are a little torn and he los...

Re: Movie Thread

Fury Road's pretty great action flick if you detach it from the Gibson trilogy and just take it as a standalone reboot. I still don't know how (or if) Max is supposed to be an ex-police officer in a world that's clearly been stewing in the apocalypse for decades, but whatever. Same with Evil Dead. I...

I disagree about it being like a Lynch film. It's more like a celebration of depression.
How do you figure?

Re: Movie Thread

What a surprise. A prequel about not-"Mad Max" (with a vagina) underperforming ? It's almost like the public at large didn't give much of a damn to begin with. Their attempts at replacing a legacy character will be in vain. The common shill defense will go "It's the economy's fault," even though th...

Re: Non-cape tv show

I enjoyed Part 3 of The Return much more, mainly because 95% of it was just Cooper wandering around a Las Vegas casino in a childlike daze (he apparently had a stroke trying to return from the supernatural realm). It was very endearing.

Re: Non-cape tv show

It took Lynch an hour and a half to establish the very basic premise, which is that Demon Coop doesn't want to return to the Black Lodge, and is trying to avoid it.

Everything else is just weird imagery.

No other story thread from seasons 1-2 carries over as far as I can tell.

Re: Non-cape tv show

It's not even set in the town anymore lol. Could easily change the title to "Kyle MacLachlan wanders around trying to find the plot"

Re: Non-cape tv show

Even the Red Room is starting to wear me on tbh, because it's the same scene over and over.

Cooper is sitting on a chair with a gormless expression, listening to someone speak in riddles.

It was mildly amusing to see that Lynch recast the Dwarf with a CGI tree that spews electricity.

Re: Non-cape tv show

I watched the first two parts of Twin Peaks: The Return. I'm really glad Lynch didn't have full creative control over the original show. It's turned into a borderline incomprehensible schizophrenic nightmare. The only thread that really carries over is that a demonic version of Cooper (now inexplica...
