Well I'm sure there was no political bias in this study:

I imagine it was totally scientific, too. After all, transgenders have no reason to lie about people persecuting them. It's not like they have an agenda or anything....

It's not like being a transexual means that your entire identity is a lie.

PROS: s/he adheres to the traditional spelling of "aerith" from FF7

CONS: tryharding the deal by shouting out one eye symbolism.

Found it. Had to dig down three layers and manually search the Lancet for it. Also, it's part-way broken so either that's the shortest study I've ever seen, or only the abstract is actually on-site and they put it under all three of full text, summary and additional materials.

So, the spiel: They want to change the definition of transgender from being a mental disorder because they feel that it being defined as such causes problems, so they set out to see if they could explain it as social pressure. Because that line of reasoning ends well.

Added bonus, they pulled their interviewees from patients at a specialized health care clinic for transsexuals. Wonderful. It's like that study that's always brought up about Soy making you sterile having pulled their subjects from a fertility clinic. Yes, that happened.

So... they found that, on a scale of 1-10, the average person there experienced 'dysfunction' of 5. This is split between family, school and 'social.' A 'high distress' among around 80 percent. Notably, about three quarters of the subjects were doing some form of body modification. A solid third of those doing it without medical supervision.

To be fair, transitioning start was on average 25, but 'high distress' and 'dysfunction' were both specifically adolescence.

My read: You successfully proved that your interviewees had their lives go a little sideways 'round-about the time they hit puberty. They argued with their parents, friends and teachers, and doubled-down at some point in or around their college years. That, and not a damn thing else. The full study may have something I missed.
