Yeah, that sentence structure was a bit misleading. He loves himself alright, but he has by far the most fucked up body of the whole bunch. He might survive for another decade or two if it was just about getting fat and losing limbs, but any other serious disease or injury might push his body beyond the breaking point. That broken chair probably cut off 5 years of his life.
