Blame it on Lindsay. They saw that LIndsay got on the New York Times Bestseller List with her glorified Starscream fanfiction that was basically a YA for adults and wanted a piece of that pie.

It's mostly this, but I suspect there's an element of regret for their previous output. Something kinda similar happened with Yahtzee a good long while back. He had this moment of questioning if he'd be okay with his "cultural legacy," as he put it, being nothing but bitching about vidya and making knob jokes, so he started writing books, too, something more traditional and, for lack of a better term, legitimate. Now that the ex-CAs are getting on in years, and the gravy train they were all riding has all but entirely petered out, they're probably facing some of that introspection, even if they don't consciously know it and/or want to admit it.

But yeah, mostly just trying to copycat Lindsay.

That's a good point. It's why Filmbrain isn't doing BMB because he wants to be serious movie critic not spastic who yells Symbolism! It was fine being an angry critic when they were young and the money was good, but since that trend has gone out of style and they're not getting the same kind of views and money they used to, hence why they started resenting Doge and doing shit like #Complict or #KickVic as they realized those old CA videos are going to be their online legacy. Eh it could be worse considering Lordkat's online legacy is guy who got angry at Spoony for costing him his chance to interview Notch.
