Also, if you're into reading manga, the The Origin manga retelling of the original series is really good. I pirated that, enjoyed it, and then bought the hardcover releases for it.
Not a big fan of the related anime that's just "Look at how cool Char is as a kid!"

The origin collection is pretty cool, yeah. It's probably the new best way to experience the original story, since the animation on 0079 wasn't very good even for the time period.
