Gotta say, I agree with his review. The movie is not woke. Phoebe Waller Bridge is nowhere near the biggest problem in it. The opening scene is a letdown. James Mangold is not in Spielberg's league when it comes to imagination and audacity. Mangold is competent and that's it and that's not enough for an Indiana Jones movie.

Circling back to this. I realize that the people defending this movie are ones who flat out hated Crystal Skull so they justify the nonsense.

I was reading someone on Twitter who is usually a Lucas defender of his 2000s days who flat out said while the movie sucked, he wasn't upset about it because it's what the Crystal Skull haters wanted. Disney runs the Lucas films by committee and change in accordance to the fans.

Examples of the changes he used:
1) Oh people hated Mutt. Let's kill him off unceremoniously even though it makes zero sense why. They wouldn't care since they hate Mutt.
2) Indiana Jones should never be married. Let's divorce him.
3) Indiana Jones should only fight Nazis and not commies even though it makes sense due to his age. Let's make the villain a Nazi again even though it's the late 1960s.

Similar things happened.with Star Wars by making Force Awakens a complete copy of A New Hope because the fans hated the prequels and we know the changes that happened with Rise of Skywalker after the shit show known as Last Jedi.
