That's the point. The movie is shitty and most of the time nothing fucking happens, people just sit down and talk about nothing. And the thing itself is basically just a Frankenstein monster.

From Who goes there short novel. The short story actually isn't bad for 50's sci-fi, but the old movie is really bad, it's also very loose adaptation.

At least Kane was influential on every single film that came after it. Goodfellas is Martin Scorcese falling from grace trying to make Mean Streets again and failing. Goodfellas is entertaining, but anyone who calls it a better gangster movie than City of God, let alone Godfather, is a fool. It has no real conflict, structure or even pacing. When it ends it just kind of stops. Casino was a little bit better because there was always the tension of everything about to fall apart at any second.

I like Goodfellas but agree it has a lot of pacing issues. Yes, it was based on real life events, so much so that the guy it's based on got kicked out of witness protection for bragging that it was him, but you can still do a proper narrative with a "true" story. Take Wolf of Wall Street for example. You start out with the rise to power, watch Leo self-destruct due to his addictions and ego, and then the fall from grace. Goodfellas has similar themes, but they're interrupted with scenes of Joe Pesci losing his shit, and while that was entertaining, it doesn't make for a well-paced movie.

I do get why people loved it though. Maybe it was just overhyped for me. Like when i finally read Fahrenheit 451, I thought it was all right but not great like people said.

Fahrenheit 451 is missing that certain atmosphere you need for a proper dystopian future.
