Tron will become the next cinematic universe.

Nah it was usually Germany or Russia. We're talking CoD here so it's not the smartest or most creative writers we're dealing with.
Didn't bother to mention Germany because really, what else are you gonna fight in a WWII setting? Italians?

And what's the point of that? Half way through they'll just switch sides and you have to fight the Germans anyway.

Besides, the Italian military was dogshit. They got their asses handed to them by Greece and they needed the Germans to do their job for them.

Japan for example? Besides, there have been so many wars there's no reason to always go with Nintendo WWII.

Imperial Japan was just weird. They were deadly obsessed with playing the chessmaster villain and having everything go just according to keikaku - except it never did.

That's just part of the joke.

It's always either some Middle/South American state, or North Korea (because the Chinese market brings in too many bucks to piss them off).
Homefront did this. Not that it would help the game a lot, but it's really sad to see a complete destruction of any credibility (China is a superpower, but can you see fucking North Korea invading USA?) the story could possibly have. Might as well come up with some supervillain plot with mindcontrol while we're at that. Chinese strong. Chinese proud. Chinese fucking poluted hellhole. Chinese would get mad if portrayed as villains, game bannuu, no more chink buckaroos, so let's rewrite this shit, money talks. Imagine if germans acted that way - oh wait, every violent game with nazis gets fucked in Germany, so it's not like that is an issue.

Pacific warfare is pretty attractive topic that hasn't been run to the ground like the eastern and western front. I like reading about most of the important battles, it's a good stuff. The thing with those games is that they rarely get permission to be creative. Last time it really happened was with Modern Warfare 1. Remember, before it it was WW2 CoD copycats (or more precisely Medal of Honor) everywhere.

The funny thing is that the Red Dawn remake did the same switcheroo around the same time.

And Germany doesn't get triggered by nazis themselves. It's the eeeeeeevil swastika that needs to get censored.
(They only do that in comics and games though, never movies and TV shows since that's harder to censor.)

And you can't make a game about the war in the Pacific because then you would be shooting Asians.

Because the symbols are verboten with the only exemptions being made for art or education. Vidya counts as neither so no Hakenkreuz, Schwarze Sonne or Wolfsangeln for us.
This is actually, legally, forbidden in Germany and could bring forth actual punishment:

Not that anybody actually gives enough of a fuck. Courts are way to busy dismissing rape cases minor misdemeanors done by foreign intruders refugees to bother with that shit.

They had one Medal of Honor game and one Call of Duty game from that theater, but both are titles from 10 years ago. Nowdays, who knows. Although since Chinese hate Japanese, they likely wouldn't mind.

@Kugelfish I know - interestingly enough, I think my country is just about the only one where Hakenkreuz is a common knowledge, every time I see it mentioned by anyone who isn't German or Czech, they always call it Swastika.

Is it also verboten in Česká republika? I know many former soviet states are about as hardcore, or even more so in the case of Russia, as us when it comes to banishing Nazi symbols.

Nope, Hákový Kříž isn't an issue here, no censorship in vidya games. I wouldn't know about other states, since other than being slavic as well, there isn't anything connecting us with them, but in Czech Republic there is very little censorship - although a massive corruption, which sometimes leads to things getting banned. Right now Uber has been banned in one of our major cities, because it was making traditional thieves with yellow cars (also known as taxi drivers) look bad, and people at the town hall are completely rotten.
