But it gets interesting when you do custom shit like DOTA. Handling events and shit was not only way harder in SC2, but the great Battle.net service made it especially hard to promote your creations.

I wouldn't call them athletes, but they do practice 8+ hours a day xD

It's... like chess? They're not athletes, but it's kind of a sport.

Dota 2 The International 2017 had 10M$ in prize money. For 1st place.
Haha, fucking Chess. The original e-sport.

Who crowds into an arena to watch some stranger play a terrible game?

I actually find commentated real-time, high-level chess matches pretty damn comfy.
Funny thing about chess and e-sports is that they are still breaking their heads over the most complicated chess riddle: How to get chess to be an olympic game. Since it's not a team sport, not athletic and neither played on grass, ash, snow, in the water or in an arena they haven't quite managed it but are trying to figure out how to make it happen.

Make it like in Mel Brook's History of the World Part I and use people as the chess pieces. Instant team sport.

I thought the joke was that video games are now considered sports. When the hell did such mislabeling become acceptable. Are gamers athletes now? Is Movie Blob a free agent? Is pewdiepie a #1 draft pick?
Isn't South Korea currently shilling to make eSports olympic?

Overwatch is the most forced eSport of all time. It's clear Blizzard is throwing a ton of money around to make it an eSport but anyone with a brain knows that REAL eSports just sort of happen. Rocket League just happened, Evo just happened, Counter Strike tournaments just happened. Any time it is forced it will only last as long as the publisher pumps money into it. Evo won't die without Capcom throwing money to shill their new crap, the "Overwatch World Cup" will die immediately without Blizzard throwing millions at it.
And Blizzard should know better because they've made the same mistake in the past: Starcraft just happened and became a fucking national sport in South Korea. Then they made Starcraft 2 with eSports in mind, scaring off the majority of old players who didn't care about eSports, while not keeping new players engaged for long enough.
The letdown of StarCraft 2 goes beyond that. That story was vomit inducing.
Don't get me started, it's among the few games that manage to me feel rages in seconds just remember that fucking absolute piece of trash.
WHY THE FUCK was so retarded? I didn't feel for it once, NO of course not i had to be stupid as FUCK and buy the first two parts before i realized it was a stain on Gaming history! Chris Metzen is my equivalent for Spoony or Boogie: Unending rage and hatred for ruining what I give a fuck about.

Didn't they also get into some argument with the SK eSports scene over licenses and shit? That might've been the turning point of them going "Screw this, let's focus on something else".

This is modern Blizzard we're talking about. Anything but fanfic-tier storytelling would be a surprise.

And one of my favorite tales was finding a thread about people complaining about the SC2 map editor, only for some Blizzardtard to go all "This editor has to have a steep learning curve to ensure that the maps that do get finished will be of the outmost quality!"
That is moviebob defending other M level of malking me want hurt someone

I followed SC2 esports for some time. Then I just... got tired of it. It just died.

Now Blizzard is trying their luck on Brood War again lol
