Well, time to reactivate this thread.
So I just experienced my first ever cart in Rise, at the hands of Anjanath.
It wasn't even because the monster was particularly hard. I just yeeted myself off of a cliff, decided I would risk just running up while the fucker was still raging around, and then I got double-hip-checked before I could do much of anything.

I failed a hunt yesterday twice against a G-rank Diablos. Mostly because I've started playing LS and wasn't fully used to it yet (still am not) but those hitboxes are insane.
The game opens up massively in G-rank. Luckily, there's no bullshit fag mechanic like there was in Iceborn back in World with the abominable Clutch Claw that totally fucked the game to shit.
What I had to get my head around the first few hour in is that the gameplay really isn't much different to pre-5 in terms of speed.
It looks faster and seems more erratic but really isn't in the end.
The faster feel just promoted sloppy play on my part. When I realized that, things went much more smoothly.

I'd say in a way, these make up for the map now being one continuous zone. Back in the day, if you needed to say use whetstones ASAP you could always fuck off into a different area and let the monster throw its temper tantrum alone. Now you just do that shit while riding your doge and dodging attacks.

Whetfish are the pro choice. 2 cycle for regular, 1 cycle for large whetfish.
I found teleporters still very valuable, though. G-rank monsters can ruin your shit right quick if you made two big mistakes in a row and not even that mobility is enough in those cases.

Whetfish are better, but the stones are of endless supply. This appeases my hoarder sensibilities.
And was anyone else a bit disappointed by this Magnamalo fella? I thought this God-Eater-looking mofo would put up more of a fight. Really no comparison to the first Tigrex fight in Freedom Unite, or the first actual Gore Magala fight in 4.
His tail railgun/harpoon is a cool trick, though.

Zinogre but angrier with blast element is plenty mean enough for me. I still have PTSD from U3 G-rank Brachidios in my beginner days.

It's saving grace is that you'll only be forced to do it three or four times. It's completely removed in Sunbreak. So don't bother farming those merit papers!
All rampage abilities on weapons will be deleted if you upgrade them above high rank and instead get a rampage decoration slot for those abilities. Those decos are made exactly like the normal ones, with monster parts.
Maybe Rampage is fun in multiplayer. Solo it's a pain in the ass.
