How do you make Star Trek JUST about exploration, anyway? Haven't all the shows been about going to a new planet and beating the shit out of their people and ships?
At least TOS was mostly about exploration. They just happened to explore planets with godlike assholes / other weird alien stuff on them a lot.

Steve Shives recently chimed in on the STD controversy, and he's unsurprisingly claiming that Star Trek was "always inclusive" and "always appealed to SJWs", even though he's completely missing the point of why people are hating Discovery and doesn't even realize the politics at the time in which the original Star Trek series aired were mostly different compared to the heavy SJW atmosphere of the current decade, especially when face-to-face with the obviously forced political agenda that the new series has.

The funniest thing is that they would love old Trek for all the Russia hating. Sure, there was a Russian on board the Enterprise but the Klingons, who were full-on evil in OG Trek, were the actual Russians.

What was progressive for the '60s isn't progressive in the least today.

That doesn't matter. What matters is taking yet another thing from the "nerd culture" and subverting and perverting it to their liking.
Look at the thumbnail of that video and his shit-eating grin. That's what's important to them. Niggers are sitting in their darkened room, only illuminated by the monitor on which a web browser (Chrome most likely) with tumblr opened is to see and go all Gollum "Yeeeeeeesssssss! This is miiiiiiineee noooowwww! Staar Trek is miiiiiiiiinneee noooow!!!".
