The book had two sequels of its own but who the fuck reads books?
From what I've heard, all the Psycho books(including the original) were shit

Anyway, Paul Atreides, as he is the self-aware Chosen One, whose epic destiny goes to hell in the sequels because he can't handle knowing what he has to do.
I do hope Dune gets adapted Game Of Thrones style one day, as it's a very original franchise full of introspection with a heavy focus on worldbuilding.

The problem is only the first Dune is decent to good, every other book by Frank Herbert get progressively weirder, some are separated by thousands of years, some aren't exactly good, some of Brian Herbert and KJA books take place between some of Frank Herbert books and the ending was written by Brian and KJA.
If they ignore stuff not by Frank it ends in a cliffhanger
-On the internet, everyone end up being Spoony or Tim Buckley
-All fanbases are shit
-Most people had, have and will have shit tastes

No thanks. I'd like Dune to remain poser-geek-free.

Frank's overall message of not trusting heroes is terrific, but it does get buried under tons of philosophical ramblings that clog up the sequels. Plus, the interest fades as the original characters die off. It's hard to say where the series should've ended. I like the original just fine on its own, but Dune Messiah is where that central twist comes in. And after that, you kinda want to see what does happen afterwards, but by that point, the Golden Path storyline comes in and you're pretty much obligated to read the whole series.

The newer books, with the exception of the frankly(see what I did there) idiotic sequels are actually really good and much easier to read and follow than any of the original books whilst still maintaining the same feel and intelligence. I heavily recommend the House trilogy that sets up the events of the original novel.

Are you telling me you didn't like the epic Sci-Fi miniseries?

This. The first 1-3 books are arguably ok, but the other shit is pretty fucking odd.

I did, but it would've been a lot better as an actual series.
