I really like Lynch. He's clearly passionate about his work and at times a deep thinker but at his very core he's absolutely hilarious with a very dry humor.

Re: Non-cape tv show
After two seasons of degrading quality, "The Last Laugh" reminded me of what a great post-apocalyptic drama Survivors could (and should) have been.
Written by series lead Ian McCulloch (who only returned in season 3 for the episodes he wrote), it's a complete rejection of the cozy soap opera aesthetic the show had developed. McCulloch kills off his lead character by having him get infected with smallpox and then returning home to his family to aggressively denounce them, in order to trick a group of attacking bandits into recruiting him. Knowing that he will thus infect them and kill them all in revenge. To save his family, he has to make them think he's betrayed them. Brilliant.
It's a superb scene, his shining hour. If the entire show was as gritty and nailbiting as this, it would've been a masterpiece.

I love how the Survivors intro is just the backstory for COVID lol. Chinese scientist has butterfingers, releases a plague.
Terry Nation was a genius.

New Red Dwarf special's been confirmed by Robert Llewelyn (who plays Kryten), apparently to start filming in late 2024/early 2025.
