Well it's a prequel to Psycho 1 that happens in the 2010's, seems people liked itRapeculture wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2017 12:49 amI keep wondering how that Bates Motel TV series is. It ended not too long ago and I was thinking of binging it over the next few weeks.
I like the original Psycho quite a bit. First saw it back in high school. I am apparently one of the lucky few who didn't get spoiled in regards to the twist.

Re: Movie Thread
I had no high expectations of Psycho 3, but with Anthony Perkins himseld directing, things got a helluva lot better. I would call this a valid continuation and one of the more underrated 80s slashers.
The story is much simpler and more heartbreaking(a tight focus remains on Norman's personality crisis, with the story focusing on his attempts to wrest free from Mother's control as he falls in love with an equally damaged nun). There's more of a visual flourish and clever editing.
It's slicker, smarter and Perkins has the character down to a tee. Only flaw is that it does follow up on Psycho 2(but it retcons the silliness: so Norman's mother really WAS Norman's mother)

Re: Movie Thread
Psycho 4 is quite corny, but it's a great epilogue to the Norman Bates story.
It sounds dreadful in theory - the first two acts is basically Anthony Perkins giving his character's backstory on a phone with long flashbacks, almost like a clip show - but ultimately, the story itself proves quite poignant and ends fittingly, with Norman burning his mother's house and locking Mother into his mental fruit cellar for good.
Overall, an astoundingly solid horror series. It has a lot of flaws, but every entry mattered and Perkins was always terrific in his portrayal. For once in a long line of sequels, nobody fucked up(at least not irreparably).

I thought Bates Motel was pretty good. Freddie Highmore nailed it as a young Norman. I wouldn't exactly call it a prequel though, it's more like a weird reboot/remake thing.
