This all springs from left-anarchism. College kids with too much energy and directionless rage want an excuse to break shit. But since they're kids and not adults, they don't understand the concept of being punished. So they want to find a way to break shit or beat people up without being responsible. Hence, "smash the system," "destroy the patriarchy," "fuck the police," "stop fascism now" etc.
