I can get the article to load, but I highly disapprove of this. I think it's disgusting that the cops hoard child porn just so they can entrap a few creeps. They've even caught cops that take this stuff home.
Law enforcement needs to be SHUTTING DOWN and DESTROYING all these sites and images. Prosecute the owners of these websites to the fullest extent of the law.
I agree.

Incidentally, it's why the line about most anons who shitpost about underage kids being FBI is true. The super annoying fags who post child pics in random threads that have nothing to do with kids at all? Almost 100% they're shitty cops.

Fuck them. I don't want to see your bait child pics and I don't want your shitty b8posts flooding a board where people discuss unrelated topics.

Cops should be destroying these disgusting images, not hoarding them. Actually go digging for legit pedo sites, rather than creating your own and staffing it with cops (who totally are not pedos at all guiz despite posting shit tons of pedo porn) in an effort to snag that random pedo here or there.

Seems like a waste of resources tbh, and if anything, the cops having such large caches of pedoshit will just drive pedos to join the police.

I'm still on the fence. They probably caught TONS of paedo's that would have found the same crap somewhere else.

I have my doubts how effective this really was.

This is the fundamental issue, though--

Would they have found it somewhere else? The only way to find something like this is for it to be on offer. If these guys weren't offering it then who's to say that the people looking would have simply missed it and moved on with their lives?

It's the same thing when cops offer drugs to people while undercover. Sure, you can get it elsewhere but who's to say you didn't catch someone when they were in an in-between, "if I get some I get some, if not I'll just forget about it," (we've all had days like this with some form of pleasure activity) and the only reason they were actually buying was because the cop offered and wouldn't have otherwise?

It's a stretch and you still look bad in court but I fundamentally disagree with police officers participating in entrapment like this. Catch the criminals when they're actually taking part in criminal activity. Stop trying to create criminal situations.

If this is anything like with the confidential informant in the German neo-nazi scene, then it wouldn't surprise me if this kiddie porn forum got some funds and extra protection from the authorities.

And were they just one of many, or did these cops actually contribute in building/growing the scene?

And you've probably got foreigners out of their jurisdiction downloading the stuff they've provided like mad. Probably a bunch of Arabs doing it that they can't touch.

Man to catch a predator was a great show, but it was some of the biggest entrapment bullshit ever because guys are dumb and horny even if the girl is 13.

The best ones were the guys standing in the drive way and just contemplating life and they end up turning around because they know its a bad idea, but the cops STILL arrest them despite that.

Almost certainly.

Or pedos who can hide their e-trails really well and they use all kinds of masking shit and outfox the cops while downloading all the child porn the cops are offering.

I also disagree with the idea of cops pretending to be prostitutes or drug dealers, for the reasons others have said. It's fine for cops to offer to buy, but I think it's wrong for cops to offer to sell. The cop is offering you an illegal product. I mean, they'd be breaking the law if they weren't a cop. Selling drugs to other drug dealers is one thing, but selling drugs to random people? There's a lot of shit the cops do that would 100% be illegal IF they weren't cops. Some of it is understandable, like breaking traffic laws to get to the scene of an accident. But I think entrapment is over the line. On the one hand, they're meeting a demand that already exists to incarcerate the johns or drug users. On the other hand, the demand will always be there. They can't lock up every john or every person who ever wanted to do drugs. What they COULD do is go after the people who supply. The harder is it to get something, the more difficult and expensive it is to have.

Sure, drug users will always find drugs, but taking thousands of pounds of drugs off the market is a better use of police time IMO than impersonating a dealer to snag twenty small-time buyers who wanted the shit for personal use.

I think the logic on entrapment is probably similar to writing speeding tickets. It looks good on the numbers to say you have so many arrests or so many busts for each crime category.
