Best Way to Treat Swollen Hemorrhoids?

My relative won't stop bitching about how they should deal with their sore ass. Without going through surgery since the post-removal period is far more painful, are there any other less stressful ways of "curing" engorged hemorrhoids, like any procedures or preventions?

There are a couple of salves but if they are to the point of bleeding from the ass all the time or not being able to sit down I don't think they will do much.
So don't sit on the shitter for too long and avoid sitting on something really cold too often. Typical tank driver sickness from sitting on cold steel in the winter.

From my experience, from having diarrhoea for 6 months after bonemarrow transplant, there is one salve that relieves the pain. Completely. Don't remember the name, though :(
I didn't exactly have hemorrhoids, but I shat so much liquid that I has multiple lesions. Also get a donut pillow or whatever.

Think it might have been Scheriproct salve.
