Retail sucks ass, I don't know what you guys are smoking but after a year or two of getting your balls busted by customers, having your manager shit all over you constantly you pretty much want to end your life.

Now if you have a higher position it's not awful, but if you're just an associate then you need to fuck right off and find a better job, otherwise you'll be miserable.

There are no better jobs unless you have an in-demand degree or 5+ years experience in something good. Or both.

Cleaning broken glass in hurricane winds and sleet is much worse than arranging bananas.

What, did you work at Wal Mart and have a bad experience?

Unless you have a manager with a vendetta you usually get out what you put in. That schpiel Kugel made about knowing your crap and applying yourself? That's some ancient-chinese-wisdom level stuff that you should really listen to. I wish people in burgerland would teach you crap like that but you generally only get farmers who have that thought process.

It does of course matter where you work. Privately-owned stores are vastly different to big chains where there's a pecking order and shit falls down.
We also don't drop down to our knees and suck the dick of every dipshit customer that has unreasonable complaints. Doesn't happen often anyway. We're pretty rural and most of our customers are either old farts or young mothers.

Yeah, I distinctly remember getting scolded, once, for telling a lady that the price of the potatoes we had was one thing (and it was listed below them) but our manager forgot to move a sign that was for the potatoes next to it (even had the name written on the sign) saying they were on sale. The sign was above them. I believe she wanted a russet potato and we were selling yukon golds for cheap since the guy doing the orders accidentally over-did them.

She got some technicality to spend 20 cents on a large potato instead of 50 cents because she felt like being difficult instead of going, "oh this big, brown potato that I obviously know isn't a yukon gold isn't a yukon gold? Well color me surprised!"

I can't really blame the managers for trying to keep customers happy but, man, sometimes they really just need to stick up the proverbial middle finger, sometimes even the literal one, and say, "suck it up."

Anyone who says retail isn't that bad hasn't worked it, plain and simple.

When you have to smile and nod because "I need to speak to your manager" haircut is bitching about their broken computer to you, and on the same day get told you won't be getting enough hours next week to pay rent.

Maybe retail is different overseas, but in burgerland it's about one of the worst jobs you can get other than support with shit pay and expected to bust your ass every second you are there, while at an IT job you're expected to relax but stay busy.

It's basically all I've worked and I'm telling you that you've just had a bad bunch of experiences. Stop working it in stuck up snobbish coastal cities and start working it in smaller towns where people don't have the luxury of being dicks and getting away with it and you'll see a difference.

You're still going to get idiots complaining just to complain but you'll get that in almost any customer service field.

Not only have I gotten regular raises in every position I've held but I've also gotten plenty of hours. Contrast it with the people they didn't trust to finish their job as much getting half the amount of hours I got.

If you don't want to apply yourself a little bit and deal with the occasional idiot then, yeah, you're gonna hate it but calling it one of the worst jobs you could have is a disservice to fast food.

Well, there's your problem. We don't have uppity bitches wanting to talk to the manager here. We get maybe three a year of those and, well, I am "the manager". I side with my employees first and foremost. 99% guaranteed the customer is a moronic dickbag that doesn't know what he's talking about.
And we don't have "not enough hours" in Germany in any job. Fixed hours, fixed pay. If anything, you're going to work overtime because even finding people is hard. It's the exact opposite situation here. 30 people applying for a job would be the dream! Cunts just sit at home and collect welfare. That's what socialism gives ya.

My mother always said Germany was one of the best places she'd ever visited. Your work situation sounds like a dream compared to here.

I should immigrate. Legally, of course.

I'm going to have to go with retail being the worst job ever. One of my best friends has worked retail in various shops for his whole life. He tells me all kinds of horror stories about black people constantly screaming in his face and throwing huge tantrums when they don't get what they want, and Asians constantly trying to haggle on prices that are fixed. Also shoplifters galore. (He taught me the codeword for "Shoplifter" at his store, and I laugh whenever I hear it on the intercom there.)
And he lost his job at that store because he threw away returned produce, charged with "destruction of store property." Superiors can fire you for no reason like that.
