I think it goes more foundational. You have nerds that get beat up and picked on by everyone, because they are autists that sperg about stupid shit. Basically pre internet nobodies without a camera.

You factor in these nerds seeing Goth as outcasts just like them, yet people are kinda freaked out by them just enough to at least not physically wreck their shit save for a few words about being a creepy school shooter. So nerds adopted the same colors to get a reprieve.

Goth itself was supposed to somehow be a counter culture of individualism (by all dressing and acting the exact same... fags...uhg...) so that opened it up to pretty much EVERY awkward outcast trying to have an identity rather than just take a shower and act like a normal fucking person. Fast forward and we have every offshoot imaginable from Emo, Scene, Gaymers, Bronies, Furries, outright Pedophiles.

Goth was that fad for edgy kids with issues who think the world is fucked up, then it's warped further into what it is now with this mishmash of losers trying to look "tough" and "unique" while jerking off, 'scuse me "clopping" to pony porn and animu while running with their arms out because they think it makes them faster, telling people how in touch and strong they are like Naruto Goku san and they feel just like Rick Sanchez while arguing the "philosophies" of whatever made up martial art they know nothing about and shit!
